Do humans have a purpose in life? Is finding that purpose the key to true satisfaction? What does it mean to unlock our potential, to “self-actualize”?
Since the moment we become self-aware, we’ve been doing something — setting goals, striving, learning. But what are we really chasing? Maslow’s hierarchy of needs suggests that as we fulfill each layer, we climb higher, always wanting more. We seek safety, nourishment, belonging, respect. And yet, when we achieve those things, we ask for more.
What is it that we are truly searching for?
I don’t have the full answer, but I do know this: the search inside me isn’t over.
A Never-Ending Tug-of-War
I’m 38 years old. I’ve read, watched, and listened to so much over the years. And deep down, there’s this feeling — an intuition — that if I just organize everything I’ve learned and take action, great things might happen.
But here’s the thing: I try, and often the results aren’t as magical as I imagined.
Inside me, two voices are constantly battling. One urges me to start. “Do it now,” it says. But the other? It mocks me. “You’ll just quit halfway again,” it sneers.
